Mr. Eggplant 2 was inspired by classic monster movies like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, King Kong and Godzilla. I used masks to create my beautiful composite Frankenstein.
Mr. Eggplant 2 Movie Poster
Mr Eggplant is made up of an eggplant, the arms and legs of one of the California Raisins, and a mouth and eyes that I drew. There are planes, motorcycle guys, and fires. I also spent time correcting blemishes on Mr. Eggplants skin, and blending the smoke from the fires. I used a variety of effects and smart filters.
Background
The first drawing I ever did of Mr Eggplant stomping over cities was when I was in elementary school, and his face commonly graces any whiteboard that I happen to be near. Making this poster in Photoshop class was an opportunity to make something that I have been imagining for a long time
Target Audience
This movie (and expansion pieces) are for an audience that appreciates classic monster movies, super heroes/villains, and comics. This project is for people who appreciate fantasy and whimsy. It is for lovers of Disney movies, as well as anyone who is concerned about the status of nature (more specifically vegetables, nightshades and all the eggplants and living organisms out there in our world.)
Design Problem
Create a Movie Poster and 2 expansions (Website and Mobile App) using Photoshop and build a composite of different images. Using masks, filters and blending techniques, craft a Movie campaign that utilizes the power of Photoshop. For this portfolio I also created the Mr. Eggplant Leboubou Design and packing as well a popcorn container and a movie ticket for the theater experience.
Design Process
Mr. Eggplant is something that I have been drawing my whole life, and I had already been working on moving Mr. Eggplant into my digital assets. I had made a logo for another project, in addition to this poster, website and mobile app. I used Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator in the creation of this work. The Mr Eggplant 2 movie poster is made up a variety of images. I used masks that I drew with a variety of effects and smart filters. I developed Mr. Eggplant further in the Website. I wanted to see if I could get him up in the sky, and to put the at the bottom of the screen (opposite of what I did in the poster.)
For the Leboubou Doll I spent time learning from Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials. In learning how to create the fur effect I tried drawing the fur, but eventually decided to use a layer mask for the fur on the doll, and then also created a brush in Photoshop that I applied to the border of the mask for the doll.
Design Solution
I created a photo composite for Mr Eggplant 2 Movie, as well as expansion pieces that challenged my skills. I am happy with this project, and of course have more ideas for expansion pieces, like Mr. Eggplant vegetarian microwave meals (because Mr. Eggplant loves sustainability!!) Or designing a logo for an new movie studio that makes these films (Mr. Monster Films) or the other monster movies like Mrs. Popcorn (Kernels of Death.) I also really want to do that video game mockup (Rampage!!) My only regret is that I do not have more time to make more work for this project right now.
Mr. Eggplant is set in Paris. In the movie poster there has already been a fight at the Eiffel Tower (as you can see from the fire in the background.) In a reference to the King Kong posters, Mr. Eggplant is holding his motorcycle muscle friend as he fends off attacks.
Mr. Eggplant 2 Website
I used many generative fills, which were particularly useful for setting Paris on fire, or blending the smoke with the sky in fires that I had placed there on my own. Mr. Eggplant’s blimp (named Blimpie, played by Carol Kane) was also a generative fill. I used a color lookup adjustment layer to bring it together. I used many of the AI features in Photoshop to generate images (like the blimp), to blend smoke and create fires, and refined these through prompting the AI features within Adobe Photoshop. I also used smart filters on Mr. Eggplant for further skin correction. There is a color lookup adjustment layer to bring the colors together.
On the website page for Mr. Eggplant 2, it is near the end of the movie, and Mr. Eggplant is riding Blimpie after successfully thwarting an attack on Paris. Everyone has realized that Mr. Eggplant isn’t a monster or a villain, but that he is a hero for saving the city.
This is the mobile website and stills for a video that appear on the mobile homepage on Marvel. this scene is near the beginning of the movie. It is right before the big battle that happens at the Eiffel Tower (before it is set on fire.)

Leboubou Process
For the Leboubou Doll I spent time researching fur creation methods. I did Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials. I tried drawing the fur, but eventually decided to use a layer mask for the fur on the doll, and then also created a brush that I applied to the border path of the mask for the doll.
